Many people love music. Whether they are also musically-talented, tone-deaf, logical, emotional, or sentimental (or at least a combination of some of these things), they have some favourite songs. Each song may also remind them of some of the certain events in their lives.

How much and how far do we allow songs to affect our lives, including thoughts and feelings? Perhaps they can mean the same or differently to each os us. This is why children’s songs are always light, fun, and optimistic. They should be. Otherwise, how would they grow up with a much better mental health and attitude towards life?

“What do teenagers know about love? They’re still little kids!”

Perhaps you’re one of the adults who perceive some teenage pop songs as ‘toxic’, especially those about (the so-called) love. Love? Perhaps they mean ‘crushes’. They never really last long. Once the butterflies stop dancing in your stomach, your eyes are completely open. You begin to see their ‘ugly sides’ and lose interest. Just like that.

Then, you can probably scoff like most know-it-all adults sometimes do:

“Teenagers. What do you expect?”

Even some young adults still go through the same phase. There are songs that can still trigger certain emotions. From the fun, love, breakup, and even funeral songs. You name them. Take your pick.

Not only that, though. Sometimes, some happy songs can still sadden you. They either remind you of the one who got away, died, or even hurt you.

You’ll probably curse or decide to leave the room. You don’t want to hear them anymore – or at least for the time being.

That just hurts, sometimes way too much. Some songs are already that specific and obvious. You’ve associated them with things that used to make you feel happy, until the day someone ruined them for you.

Still, it’s never the songs’ fault. It’s either the people or how you allow them to make you feel. Sometimes it’s all parties involved.

Someday, this agony won’t last. It shouldn’t. Then you’ll listen to the same songs, but this time with less than once a heavy heart. You’ll tell yourself:

It’s just another sad love song.

You just stop letting it affect you emotionally. You’re as fine as can be.
